About Us

Scorned in Chains is a one-woman, LGBTQIA+ owned business and I (Charlotte) am the creator of every piece that you see available here on my website. I create unique, heavy-duty chain-wear from surgical stainless-steel and I like to do things a bit differently, using 3mm steel wire to create my own jump rings. Now 3mm might not sound like a lot but this is; as far as we can tell after scouring the internet; the heaviest gauge of stainless-steel chainmail style jewellery out there. There are similar chainmail style pieces available out there, but mine ours are THICKER! This also means that my work can be used for suspension and restraint if that’s your kind of thing!
Scorned in Chains started entirely accidentally. In July 2023 I found myself laid up at home following some minor surgery and thanks to my inability to do nothing I found some bits of chain from a past housemate and within an hour I’d dismantled a purse which had a clasp on it and fashioned the chains and clasp into a bracelet. Friends of mine loved my bracelet and asked to buy one for themselves, so I had a look into buying the materials to recreate this. However, the bracelet wasn’t the best quality being made from aluminium and chrome plated steel and I decided that if I were to sell my work then it had to be the best quality that I could create, no matter what!
After a lot of research and testing materials that I purchased online I found that the jump rings available just weren’t tough enough for what I had envisioned and after a bit more research I concluded that the best thing to do was to make my own. So, I set on with the task of finding stainless-steel wire and making my own jig to turn jump rings, followed by creating my own process to cut them and have a perfect butted closure on each one. I’m something of a perfectionist so this took some time and a lot of trial and error before I became happy with the result, which has led to what I’m putting out today, fully hand-made chains crafted from ethically sourced stainless-steel using British made closures.
